Our story
Bertus is and remains in motion. Started long ago as a small record store that made the switch to wholesale and distribution a few years later. Over the past 50 years we have grown into an international (leading) player in production, sales and distribution of Vinyl and CDs. We work with all labels and operate in every genre from Metal and EDM to Jazz and K-Pop.
The music business has changed drastically in recent years and so have we. We work hard to keep our place in this business. Whether it's the distribution of albums or the creation and production of new releases: passion for our product is at the core of our everyday activities!
We continue to invest time and energy to pursue our goal: providing music lovers with the widest possible assortment, in every genre, in every physically available format.

Launch of Music On CD
While streaming services became the norm for music consumption, the CD seemed to be near its end. Nothing could be further from the truth, as evidenced by the Music On CD label. Classic albums from all genres and 'forgotten gems' are made available to consumers again via Music On CD.

Driven by passion for the vinyl record and a strong belief in its renewable potential, Bertus and pressing plant Record Industry set up vinyl-only label Music On Vinyl together.

Expanding local offices across Europe
To support the European ambitions, Bertus is opening local sales offices in several countries. After setting up office in Germany, offices were opened in France and Spain, later to be followed by Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Czech Republic & Slovakia, the Nordics and the Baltic regions.

Moving to a bigger Office & Warehouse!
Due to the continued growth, both the office and the warehouse are not big enough for Bertus' ambitions. In 2001, 2 brand new buildings at the Capelle Trade Center XL were taken into use. A third warehouse is added to the site in 2011.

From Wholesaler to Exclusive Distributor
Towards the end of the 1990s, Bertus not only fulfills the role of Wholesaler, but the first (Exclusive!) Distribution deals are signed, sealed and delivered. Bertus is now exclusive representative of various labels in the Benelux. In the years that follow, both the label portfolio and the territories will be expanded considerably.

First steps into European Distribution with H'Art Musik
In the early 1980s, Bertus teams up with the German company H'Art Musikvertrieb in order to serve the German market(s) in Europe with combined forces. It's a first step towards a local foothold in Europe. A local Spanish office follows in the late 1990s and several countries quickly follow in the 2000s.

Bertus is born!
In 1971, the doors of a brand new record store opened in the centre of Rotterdam. After a few years the store started expanding to music wholesale business. Bertus Distribution was born.
